We’d like you to meet Martin Collings of Charopy, a member of the Venture Café Sydney community.
Martin founded Charopy, a smart bin technology that solves recycling bin contamination in out-of-home locations. The bin is locked by default, and only unlocks when it detects eligible items. Eligible items are currently single use drink containers designated under a legislated container deposit scheme, but the technology could easily be extended to any items containing a barcode or QR code or where contamination at point of collection is a problem. The Charopy bin lid also supplies real time data to sustainability managers to monitor impact and reduce costs.
Martin is a regular community member of Venture Café Sydney, featuring in various EdTech and Sustainability related gatherings as well as pitching in the 2019 Make It Happen pitch night.
Among others, Martin connected with Damien Tudehope, NSW Minister for Finance and Small Business who experienced the smart bin technology and engaged with the wider innovation community for opportunities to partner. Charopy has beengrowing its work with Australian shopping centers, offices and schools to assist with recycling education and management.
